About Us

Himyuma Outreach Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by Nez Perce Tribal Member Leotis McCormack and Yakama Nation member Mary James.  Himyuma was founded on the principles of Nez Perce traditional teachings and cultural preservation and application in efforts to combat suicide and mental health.  Himyuma Leadership have dedicated their lives to the service of their communities in mentorship, Nez Perce traditional practices and ceremonial teachings and incorporating their efforts to their daily work and lives.  One of the foundational efforts of our indigenous ways of life is found in ceremony to which we dedicate all things through prayer and service to others.

Leotis McCormack is a former elected tribal councilman, indigenous artist, author, and motivational speaker dedicated to advocating for Indigenous sovereignty.  This is done through traditional teachings in policy development and coaching with a deep passion for empowering indigenous communities.  Leotis is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of individuals and communities.

As a champion for cultural expression and indigenous rights and with advanced degrees in environmental science, Mary has been a staunch advocate for tribal food sovereignty, suicide prevention, natural resource preservation and restoration.  Mary and Leotis McCormack bring a unique blend of traditional wisdom and modern strategies to address critical issues affecting indigenous populations. Through engaging storytelling and insightful coaching the desire is to inspire hope, resilience, and positive change by implementing tribal practices and spirituality.
